About Marc-André Abels

Publishing practitioner and product lead. I translate experience from running scientific journals into practical software and production workflows.

Background

Since 2018 I have been managing director of an independent biomedical science publisher. In that role I work on the whole journal operation: peer review, production, metadata and indexing, research integrity, budgets, service providers and international authors, editors and reviewers.

I hold a B.A. in Social Sciences from Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf.

What I bring to digital publishing

First-hand knowledge of where journal workflows lose time: submission, reviewer handling, production and indexing.
Experience in conceiving digital publishing workflows and leading their development, with a focus on requirements, editorial processes and priorities.
Working across editors, authors, service providers and technical implementation.

My role in GalleyForge

GalleyForge is my own project. I initiated it and am responsible for the product requirements and the editorial workflows. The current state, and a separate project from my publishing practice, are described on the project page.
